Elderly man hospitalised following burglary

An elderly man is recovering in hospital following an aggravated burglary Friday night.

The man in his 60’s was at his home at St. Judes Avenue on the Ballysimon Road when a youth entered the premises and assaulted the elderly man around 3am.

Local radio reports the victim was assaulted after he disturbed the intruder. He was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where he is being treated for a number of injuries.

A 17 year old youth has been arrested in relation to the break-in. He is being detained by Gardai at Henry Street Garda station.
