Man arrested after Garda pursuit

A man is in Garda custody following a high speed chase in the early hours of this morning.

Four Garda units were involved in the pursuit, which lasted nearly 25 minutes, after they spotted a car with no lights in the Kileely area of the city. When Gardai signalled the car to stop, the driver fled.

Limerick Gardai chased the silver Fiat Bravo, which was travelling at high speed through Hassets cross, along the Condell road and out the N18 road to Shannon as far as Shannon airport. Garda units from Shannon town joined the chase and the suspect was finally apprehended.

The man was taken to Henry Street Garda station were he was charged with drink driving. He will appear in court on Thursday.
