Armed robbery at Castleconnell post office

An investigation is underway following an armed robbery at a post office in Castleconnell this morning.

Gardai from Henry Street assisted Castleconnell Gardai, sending armed response units to the scene. It’s believed three or four men took part in the robbery which occurred shortly after 9am.

A sledgehammer was used to gain entry via the rear of the post office and a quantity of cash was stolen. A postmistress and a number of customers were in the building at the time however nobody was hurt in the incident. One raider was also armed with a hatchet.

Gardai were looking for a silver colored Toyota Celica car with english registration plates in relation to the robbery.
