Gardai granted more time to question Geoghegan suspects

(updates , adds new arrest, 10:19pm)

A judge has granted Gardai additional time to question people who were arrested this week in connection with the murder of Shane Geoghegan.

The Leader reported late Wednesday night that Gardai were granted the extension for 10 people who were detained on Tuesday.

The court was told at Wednesdays hearing that 5 of those being held are held on suspicion of murder. The other 5 are being held on suspicion of withholding information.

An extension application for the remaining 4 people is expected to be made today.

One man who was being held in Limerick has been released without charge this afternoon. A file will be prepared for The Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to his detention.13 people still being held.

A 15th person has been arrested as part of the investigation into the murder. The man in his 20's was detained in Weston yesterday. 14 people are now currently in custody.

A national radio report describes this latest arrest as a ‘significant development’ in the case.

A decision is expected to be made tonight on whether to charge or release five of those whose periods of detention are due to expire tomorrow morning, the Limerick Leader reported tonight.

The 23 year old man who was arrested yesterday has appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court tonight.

At the hearing Gardai requested that he be further detained for another 24 hours. It was granted by Judge Tom O' Donnell.

Gardai now say a 37 year old woman has been arrested this evening in Limerick City in relation to the ongoing investigation.She is being held at Ennis Garda station under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.

15 people are now currently in custody.
