Man appears in court on assault charge

A Castleconnel man has appeared in court today charged in relation to the death of Brendan McEvoy earlier this week.

24 year old David Byrnes with an address at Copper Hill, Ballintemple in Co. Cork has been charged with assault causing harm, following the death of Mr. McEvoy at Cherrydale on the Dublin Road.

At a special sitting of the District Court in Limerick this morning the accused made no reply when charged. At the hearing the defendant was granted free legal however his solicitor John Devane told the court that there would be no application for bail at this stage.

Judge Tom O'Donnell remanded the man custody to appear again on Wednesday 25th of June.

Brendan McEvoy was found dead at the apartment complex in Cherrydale Orchard on the Dublin Road Thursday morning.

Reports suggest he was drinking with a group of others and may have been assaulted prior to his death.
