Gardai are investigating the death of a man in Limerick City on Thursday.

The deceased, a man in his 50’s was found dead at an apartment in Cherrydale Orchard on the Dublin Road Thursday morning.

Reports say the man, who is thought to be originally from Co. Carlow, was drinking with a group of others and may have been assaulted prior to his death.

A post mortem on the body was carried out last night by assistant state pathologist Michael Curtis, however further tests are said to be needed to give a definitive cause of death.

A man in his twenties is being held in relation to the death.

NEW DETAILS
The deceased has been named as Brendan McEvoy of Co. Carlow.
