Calls for council meeting as flood cleanup continues
A call has been made this morning for a special meeting of the county council as the clean up operation continues for business owners and householders in the recently flooded areas of west Limerick.
Local councillors in the affected areas are calling for a forum to discuss efforts to prevent it happening again.
If a special meeting isn’t called, then the council will not convene again until there scheduled return at the end of September.
Local Cllr John Sheehan has said that this would be too late given the current conditions and has called for an urgent meeting suggesting it could include officials from the Office of Public works and the Irish Fisheries Board to “thrash it out” and see what remedial works can be achieved.
Speaking to local radio, a community leader in Athea meanwhile is insisting that government level aid is still needed as the clean up goes on.
