Askeaton residents on flood alert

Emergency sandbags have been deployed in the county Limerick town of Askeaton after the town experienced localised flooding from the nearby river Deel earlier today.

RTE reports Limerick county council officials are continuing to monitor the level of the river throughout the day and into the evening.

Residents in vulnerable areas have been issued with emergency sandbags ahead of high tide which is due at 8pm.

NewsTalk Radio reports that it's believed the flooding will be “minimum and not as extensive as the damage that was caused in Newcastle West”
