Month’s rainfall recorded over five hour period.

As fresh bursts of heavy rain inundate the flood stricken town of Newcastle West this evening, it has been reported that Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Martin Mansergh is to visit the affected region later tonight.

Mr Mansergh told national news radio station NewsTalk, that the Department of Social & Family affairs may help those residents worst hit who are not covered by insurance.

Meanwhile, NewsWire has learned that the following business have been affected or completely destroyed by the floods in Newcastle West alone:

Owen O Neills Furniture, Mallard Restaurant, Kimono Boutique, Desmond Credit Union, Cussen & Sons Solicitors, Bridge Bar, All Seasons, Dooleys, Fireworks NightClub, Objekt Furniture, The Cube hair salon and J.P. Moran & Co. Drapery.

Residents in affected areas are still being asked to conserve drinking water today as the possibility of water supply contamination cannot be ruled out.

A Radar image(below) form Met.ie shows a heavy cell of rain over the flooded region at 3.30pm this evening.
