Close to 3,000 students were told to stay away from the college until next Wednesday while cleaning and sanitisation of the campus takes place. The HSE confirmed that there has been 7 cases of the virus amongst students so far.
The college said in a statement tonight,
“Despite the fact that no new cases of the virus have been presented since Tuesday the College, in consultation with the HSE, has taken the decision to implement effective control measures, including the suspension of all College activities, in order to facilitate the intensive cleaning and sanitisation of the College campus so as to prevent a secondary introduction of the virus. The college will reopen 9am on Wednesday 18th March.
Contrary to recent speculation these incidents are not connected to the recent Student Union’s Ball which was held at the South Court Hotel last Friday night.
The College expressed their gratitude to the HSE for the swift and professional manner in which they dealt with this matter and thanked them for their advice and assistance over the past few days.”
