€2m halting site still empty
The €2m halting site built for Travellers out in Castletroy,Limerick still remains unoccupiedd 5 months after it's construction.
The O'Reilly, McCarthy and Ryan Traveller families have refused to move in because the new facility does not have stables for the horses which the families own.The families feel they are being denied their culture and are not having their rights respected.
"We feel that even though consideration was given to the immediate accommodation for Travellers, little thought was given to the fact that Travellers are an ethnic minority group with a history and culture all of their own",Bridgie Casey of the Limerick Travellers Development Group said.
The Limerick County Council still refuses to coment on the matter.
