Fire service deal with docklands fire

The fire service spent four hours battling a blaze which broke out at the Limerick docklands today.

The fire started at the Irish Wire products building around 3.00pm and thick black smoke could be seen all round the Shannon.

The fire service used foam and water to bring the fire under control. Traffic was delayed immensely on the dock road as vehicles were reduced to one lane during the rush hour.

Nobody was injured in the blaze and No details were available on the extent of the damage to the building.

An assistant Chief Fire Officer oversaw the operation today.
