Private Adare Manor hospital will create 380 jobs


Permission has been granted for the construction of a 100 bed private hospital on the grounds of Adare Manor in Co. Limerick(left).

Tom Kane, owner of the manor is leading a consortium behind the 31,000 square meter hospital which will be run by British health group BMI Healthcare. Permission for the hospital was granted by An Bord Pleanala this week.

Mr. Kane expects the first work on the project to begin “within several weeks’’.

Kane hopes to open the private hospital in the second half of 2008. The hospital will range in height from two to three storey and will have eight operating theatres and two radiology suites.There will be 30 consultant suites, as well as diagnostic and treatment facilities.

Each of the 100 beds will be in a self-contained room with air-conditioning, en suite bathroom, flat screen television, broadband-enabled computer and refrigerator.Facilities will include a day surgery centre and an urgent care centre for non-critical patients. Planning permission for the development, which is expected to cost €100 million, was secured subject to a
number of conditions.

These include the provision of ancillary car parking, improvements to the existing road junction with the N21, upgrading the existing waste water treatment plant, the construction of a pumping station, the development of a storm water attenuationsystem and the provision of detailed landscaping.
The hospital is expected to create up to 380 jobs.
