Cllr John Gilligan elected mayor of Limerick City

Cllr John Gilligan has been elected Mayor of Limerick City it has been confirmed tonight.

The independent has become the 812th Mayor in the counties history beating Fine Gael Cllr Kevin Kiely who was widely expected to be taking the post this evening.

Fianna Fail Cllr John Cronin was elected as Deputy Mayor.

Gilligan has served as a councillor in Limerick for 18 years.
