Man on trial in Limerick following horrific attack

(Corrected)
A man charged with the rape and robbery of a 75 year old woman has gone on trial today.

The 20-year-old is charged with two counts of rape, threatening to kill and robbing the OAP on May 22nd 2005 at her house in Tipperary.

Outlining the facts of the case to the jury of nine men and three women this morning, senior counsel Brendan Grehan said the woman was woken at around 3.40am that morning by an intruder who confronted her in her living room.

He went to walk out the back door and she attempted to lock it, the court was told. He then forced his way back into the house, pushed her into the living room onto an armchair and raped her twice, the jury heard.

The coward then proceeded to take a measly €100 from the woman’s purse and threatened the woman’s life if she called Gardai when he left.

DNA Evidence will be presented in the coming days in which a sample taken from the accused’s boxer shorts matches that found on the victim.

The trial continues this week.

Correction
I mistakenly identified the man as being from Limerick when in actual fact he’s from Tipperary. However he’s still a lowlife scumbag and a coward for attacking a 75 year old woman.
