Review to be carried out at Regional Hospital


A review is to be carried out into why 36 people were left waiting on Accident and Emergency trolleys at the regional Hospital recently.

The Health Service Executive has announced the members of the group established to investigate the situation at the hospital.

The review team comprises Dr Sheila Ryan, former chief executive officer, Western Health Board, (chairperson), Dr Garry Courtney, consultant physician, St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, Mary Boyd, director of nursing, Cork University Hospital and Catherine Clarke, bed manager, Mater Hospital, Dublin.

A HSE spokesperson said that the group will commence work immediately and is expected to deliver its report within a matter of weeks.

The situation arose on Tuesday January 16th prompting the nurses organization to claim that that the situation is unprecedented and nurses are angry that the HSE has failed to put in place appropriate initiatives in the last two years to help deal with this issue.
