Brother sentenced over fatal crash
A county Limerick man has been handed down a three-year jail sentence today after a fatal crash in the county two years ago.
20 year old Jason Aherne and his brother 26 year old Dennis Aherne from Askeaton were both driving motorbikes side by side at speeds of 100Kmph while drunk back in May of 2005, when Dennis crashed head on with an on-coming car. He died from his injuries.
The accident happened near Ballybrown around 10pm.The two brothers were seen overtaking each other at Ferrybridge and near Clarina shortly before the accident.
The surviving brother, Jason Aherne, pleaded guilty to endangerment and at a hearing today Judge Carroll Moran sentenced the man to 3 years in prison saying ‘Mr Aherne has to cope with the bereavement and has to live with the awful memory of the tragedy’
