Two arrested as assortment of weaponry is seized by Gardai

Two separate arms seizures in Limerick this week saw a variety of weaponry taken off the city streets.

A sniper rifle, homemade firearm, ammunition, a cleaver and a crossbow were recovered by Gardai at two separate houses on Wednesday night.

Two young men are due before Limerick District Court in connection with the seizures later today. One of the accused, a 17 year old first appeared before the court yesterday evening.

Garda Graeme O’Connor told Limerick District Court gardai responded to a call to a domestic disturbance at a house in the city late on Wednesday night and while there they discovered a loaded homemade firearm and quantity of ammunition, a crossbow and a cleaver and the 17 year old was arrested.Objecting to bail, Garda O’Connor said the accused is involved in an ongoing feud and had himself told gardai he `has scores to settle`. The Garda said they also feared for the youth’s safety if released.

In the second incident Gardai arrested a teenager on Wednesday after they discovered a rifle at a house in Moyross. He is due to appear before Limerick District court today.
