Gardai recover firearms and ammunition in city search

Gardai investigating serious crime in Limerick have carried out planned searches in the city this evening.

Gardai at Roxboro Road carried out searches of an open area off the Childers Road this evening recovering two sawn off shotguns along with a rifle and ammunition.

A suspect package was also found during the search and an Army Explosive Ordinance team was requested to attend the scene.

NEW DETAILS

The package contained what is described as 4 viable pipe bombs and two controlled explosions were carried out overnight, making the devices safe.

Gardai are continuing to investigate the origins and source of the firearms and explosives which were found in the Glasgow Park area.

Gardaí say they are investigating possible paramilitary links to the discovery of the pipe bombs.
