Man knocked down on William street
A man was seriously injured after he was struck by a car in Limerick City today. The accident occurred around 2:15pm today on the junction of William St/Wickham St.
It is understood that the man may have collapsed causing him to fall out onto the road where he was then struck by an oncoming car. The man then became lodged under the car.
It took the Limerick City Fire Brigade up to 15 minutes to free the man who was unconscious at the time.
The man was finally freed and removed to Limerick Regional Hospital where his injuries were described as major. Two units of the fire brigade attended the scene along with one ambulance.
Traffic was at a standstill for most of the evening on William Street while the incident was dealt with.
