Hopes fade again for Castlemahon Jobs
Hopes of saving the almost 300 jobs at the West Limerick Castlemahon plant look as if they’ve faded today after it was announced that consortiums have abandoned a takeover bid for the company.
A consultant’s report on the potential viability of the plant was published at a meeting over the weekend between Shannon Development, Limerick County Enterprise Board and the consortiums. It was as a result of this that the consortiums decided not to proceed.
Meanwhile it has emerged that the owners of Castlemahon food, the O’ Kane group have offered the Castlemahon workers two weeks’ statutory redundancy.
Senator Michael Finucane reacted to the offer saying,

“Last year when they had the redundancy programme they gave workers fiveweeks. I think they are being mean-minded in now walking away from their workforce with just the two weeks on offer.”
