32 jobs lost at Raheen manufacturing plant

32 jobs are to be lost when a manufacturing plant in Raheen winds down in March.

Essilor, an optical lens manufacturer made the announcement to staff on Friday sating they would all be laid off when the company closes.

A spokesperson for the French company stated to the Limerick Leader,

“The global market position is that the glass optical lens business has been in steady decline over the past 15 years. The market for our glass product has reduced to the point that closure is unavoidable.”.
They did confirm however that the sales department of the Raheen site and it’s Ennis site which employs a total of 330 people would not be affected by the move.

The company set up out in Raheen back in 1973.
