Ammo seized after planned dig

What’s described as a “huge amount” of ammunition was seized by Gardai after a planned raid in Southill yesterday.

Gardai recovered the almost 300 rounds of ammo when they unearthed the cache in the back garden of an unoccupied house in the estate.

The Examiner reports that the cache was most likely stored there by members of the McCarthy Dundon gang, a notorious group of criminals based in the south side of the city.

Gardai have sent the find to Garda HQ for further analysis. It’s thought this type of ammunition is used in hand guns and semi-automatic weapons.
