Fire service tackle major fire in Rathbane

Fire services have extinguished a blaze at a derelict block of apartments in Rathbane this evening, 4 hours after it started.

Fire crews from the city along with county services from Cappamore and Rathkeale had been fighting the blaze at a derelict apartment block at Sycamore Avenue since 2pm in the afternoon.

Gardai were also at the scene for a time. Reports say the block is now unsafe and may be demolished for safety reasons. There were no injuries in the fire.
