Second violent assault in the city

A foreign national remains in hospital this evening after he was the victim of a serious assault in the city early this morning, the second serious assault in 24 hours.

Gardai say the man suffered a grievous injury to his lip during rhe assault which also left the victim with swollen eyes. He was rushed to Mid-Western Regional Hospital shortly after the incident.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which did not involve any weapons, to contact them.
