Husband and wife killed in county crash


A husband and wife have been killed in a devastating road crash in Co Limerick today.

The couple, a man in his 70’s and a woman in her late 50’s both sustained fatal injuries when the car in which they were travelling in, collided with a truck on the road between Ballylanders and Mitchelstown around midday.

Local radio reports sat the woman died at the scene and the man died as paramedics tried to save him en route to hospital. The driver of the truck is said to be uninjured.

Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are still at the scene. Newswire understands the road is still closed to traffic.

The deceased are understood to be from the area however their names will not be released until relatives have been informed.

The couple have been named locally as 74 year old William Chapman and 59 year old Sarah Chapman and were living in Garyspillane.
