Rival families fight for a second night in Rathkeale
Gardai from across Limerick were scrambled to Rathkeale twice over the weekend to restore order following ‘unrest’ between traveller families in the town.
A number of males were injured early Sunday morning, though none seriously, when members of two families collided on Roches Road forcing local Gardai and Ambulance personnel to pull back and call for backup from neighbouring towns.
Gardai from Askeaton, Adare as along with an armed regional support unit from Limerick City, came to the assistance of local Rathkeale Gardai and order was restored.
More troubled erupted again last night when two different families at the Firhill halting site began fighting. No arrests were made on either night.
Rathkeale community has a high number of the travelling population in the town particularly around Christmas time when many return from the UK.
