Former Limerick Fianna Fáil TD dies

A well known Limerick East Politician who served for three terms as a TD has died.

Tributes have been coming in thick and fast for Michael Herbert who made history when he was elected to the first ever European Parliament in March 1973 and he continued to serve as a MEP for the Munster constituency for a further six years.

The former inter-county hurler and publican was 81 years old.

He is survived by his wife Bríd and his eight children.
