Limerick shopkeeper stabbed early this morning

A Limerick Shop keeper is recovering in hospital this evening after he was stabbed in a bungled robbery attempt this morning.

The incident happened around 7.30am when shop owner Gary Long arrived to open his store. He was then confronted by a man with a knife. In a struggle which followed Mr. Long received a stab wound to the arm.The attacker then escaped on foot.An ambulance was called and Mr. Long was rushed to Limerick Mid Western Regional Hospital.

The Shopkeeper was described by Gardai as having serious but not life threatening injuries.

A Garda scenes of crime unit spent most of the morning at the premises on the Old Cratloe road and Gardai say the incident is being actively followed up.
