Bruff students organs donated to save lives

Organs of a Limerick student who was killed in a road traffic accident have been donated to save the lives of four severely ill people, it’s reported today.

19 year old Erin Whelan from Bruff died in hospital Thursday from injuries she sustained in a car crash on Tuesday night, the night before she was due to receive her leaving cert results.

The Examiner reports a 4 year old girl, a 20 year old man, a mother of 6 and a 60 year old man who is on life support, have all received organs from Erin.

Fr. Joe Foley spoke at the funeral Saturday,

‘Erin was a young woman of wit and honesty who would have made a fine journalist. The death of a young person in the prime of her life, he said, was overwhelming in its effects.

“It raises unanswerable questions, it challenges the very meaning and purpose of life, and it taxes our faith,” he said.'
