Coastguard helicopter evacuates boy from clare glens

A coastguard helicopter was called in today to assist in the evacuation of a young boy who was injured in an abseiling accident.

The incident happened late afternoon at a rockface in the clare gelns, close to Newport, Co. Tipperary.

The boy, thought to be 11 years old, was injured after he fell 100m into a deep ravine while abseiling.

He was airlifted form the scene and brought to Coonagh airfield where he was then transferred by ambulance to the Mid Western Regional Hospital.

His injuries are not said to be life threatening.
