Woman threatened with a meat cleaver

A man appeared in a Limerick court yesterday charged in relation to an assault which happened at Pennywell late Tuesday night, according to local radio.

The 23 year old from the area was arrested after it was alleged he threatened a woman with a meat clever around 1.00am at a house in the area.

Gardai were called and in a violent struggle he resisted arrest. He was eventually detained and taken to Henry Street Garda station.

The man was charged yesterday with possession of a knife, assault causing harm and criminal damage. The judge remanded the man on bail and said that further direction from the DPP was needed to proceed with the case.
