Father at High Court seeking damages in sons death

The father of a child who was killed when a goalpost fell on top of him at a Limerick soccer camp nearly four years ago, has appeared at the high court in Limerick today seeking an award for post traumatic stress disorder.

10-year-old Andrew Fitzgerald was killed at Holy Cross soccer camp in county Limerick when a gust of wind caught the sheet covering the goalpost and knocked it on top of him.

Pat Fitzgearld is seeking the damages against the FAI and a trustee of the Holy Cross soccer club.

In 2005, the parents were awarded €37,013 at Limerick Circuit Court for the grief they suffered under the Civil Liability Act.

It is understood liability is not being contested in this current case and that this hearing is to decide the degree of damages to be paid.The case may last till the end of the week.
