Settlement reached in fathers high court bid

Patrick Fitzgerald has won in his High Court case for damages relating to the death of his four years ago in which the 10 year old was killed by falling goalposts.

The High court received word just before the case got underway this morning that am out of court settlement had been reached between the father and both the FAI and a trustee of the Holy Cross soccer club.

10-year-old Andrew Fitzgerald was killed at Holy Cross soccer camp in county Limerick when a gust of wind caught the sheet covering the goalpost and knocked it on top of him. The settlement amount is undisclosed but is said to be a ‘significant’ figure.

Speaking outside the courtroom this morning, Patrick said they were pleased with the outcome but stressed it was a very traumatic time for the family.
