The High court received word just before the case got underway this morning that am out of court settlement had been reached between the father and both the FAI and a trustee of the Holy Cross soccer club.

10-year-old Andrew Fitzgerald was killed at Holy Cross soccer camp in county Limerick when a gust of wind caught the sheet covering the goalpost and knocked it on top of him. The settlement amount is undisclosed but is said to be a ‘significant’ figure.

Speaking outside the courtroom this morning, Patrick said they were pleased with the outcome but stressed it was a very traumatic time for the family.
