Firearms found at Southside industrial estate

A continuing Garda crackdown on criminal activity in Limerick has seen more drugs and firearms seized this morning.

Three firearms, ammunition and 2KG of cocaine have been seized during this mornings’ searches at the Galvone Industrial Estate, which is located in the south side of the city.

The firearms are believed to be two 'high-powered' rifles and a pump-action shotgun. A telescopic lens was also recovered. The cocaine discovered has a reported potential street value of €140,000.

A Garda spokesperson told local radio the searches are part of an operation against gangland activity and are also related to the investigation into the murder of 28 year old Shane Geoghegan.

Searches are continuing this afternoon.
