Man charged with Gareth Grant murder

A young Limerick man has been charged with the murder of another man in the city over a year ago.

21 year old Greg Crawford of St Munchins Street, St Mary's Park was charged at 10.25am this morning with the murder of Gareth Grant on October 9th 2007.

The 25 year old was shot outside his house on St Ita Street while his three kids and partner were at their home. He had just left the house when he was ambushed and shot in the chest.

There was outrage expressed with Gardai at the time after it emerged that armed Gardai had been patrolling at the other end of the same street at the time of the shooting.

At last count a total of 14 people were questioned about the murder of Mr Grant, including an elderly couple from St. Mary’s Park in an investigation which Gardai described as "a long and protracted" one.

Grant was apparently killed following an internal row between members of a criminal gang. Mr. Crawford will appear agian in court on Feb 4th.
